The Panda In the Christmas Lights
The panda in the Christmas lights
Dreamily wiped the sleep from his eyes,
As he slowly looked around the tree.
Throughout all the December nights
Leading to the season’s holiday,
He hoped to be on Santa’s list
Of the children who would receive
A gift near the tree before sunrise.
He looked through the darkness in surprise,
As he saw a toy in a box,
That the branches hid from our sights,
And it had come fresh from Santa’s sleigh.
He pulled the ribbon with a twist,
And tossed it upward to the heights
Of the darkened brick fireplace mantle,
That contained an empty glass and plate.
He was still at the young age of eight
When his Christmas wish had come true.
Looking back upon this given day,
These youthful times are dearly missed.
