The Paltry Thing
fear not the nothing world
gutters scoff at humble men
candle less in empty chasms
naked flesh and broken ken
seeking heart, fulcrum of worlds
bound deep in settled dust
dry bones rasp'd against the lever
gnashing teeth to crumbled rust
faces turn in moments passing
soon slid effortless to now
faerie luster'd weighty vision
broken pointless hollow vows
unknown to much not knowing
building noise, distracted eye
paltry thing a child becomes
tremble step to cast the die
grasp the darkness, trace the seam
vault of heaven glimpsed above
don the skin, draw the arrow
clenching fist in cobalt glove
star-divined by venus tablet
ruling planet gauges worth
strike the clapper, snare the drum
loose the fire-ship in its berth
fallen scale, stoking ember
banal soul serotiny hurled
broken wonder, healing gaze
blazing standard now unfurled...
