The Old Year Departs
The old year leaves us pushed aside
as the clock strikes midnight hour
leaving behind the hopes and aspirations
of us mere mortal souls
Look back not with regret
for it is done and dusted
The New Year arrives with a bang
all eyes watching the count down
as the minutes tick down
a collective holding of breath
Now we pit our hopes and dreams
on the days and months ahead
make promises and grand plans
funny how we never learn
The same each year soon forgotten
as life catches up with us
caught up in the now, promises forgot
Look back not with regret
for it is done and dusted
Happy New Year everyone may your wishes come to fruition xox
