The Noise

It started with one utterance that grew into a shout. That cry grew louder in his ear. He could not get it out. The bellowing prolonged itself, and then one cry was two. His frightened eyes searched faces on the teeming avenue. On the edge of reason then, he gaped at strangers’ lips, but mouths stayed shut and mocked the truth of his apocalypse. The cries that he was hearing came a hundredfold or more, a deafening cacophony, an oceanic roar. And nightmare revelations that had brought this din in dreams were now his actuality - enwrapping him in screams. The throng pressed on around a man who crouched, with eyes half-dead. And now inside a room he rocks to screams inside his head. For Brian Strand's the 'COMPLETELY YOUR CHOICE (11)any form any theme' Poetry Contest

WOW and double wow... this is a victory that is so deserved, my dear friend. I cringe at the sounds he hears, but so love the words you've penned. God bless you and happy writing.

This is so powerful. You show great empathy and have helped raise awareness of a very real condition. I'm sure your own conditions that are so unique and hard to describe have increased that empathy. May we all increase in our concern for those who know a different reality from our own. Congrats for the #1 today.

... and "Fear Of The Unknown", --yours is a brilliant exposé that is directed to some and indirectly to others such as myself, ex., the prevailing precautions instituted due to Covid-19, did not stir my neighbors daily view of my home other than the movements of my hired hands outdoors. I am glad to have read your wondrous contribution to a poignant truth of our involving minds, and truly, congratulations for your justifiable 1st Place win, Aloha! William

I have a pill for every phobia out there, and one of them is just THAT, hence, unable to do refills, YIKES! Andrea, thanks for noting the cause of my e'er so oft revisits of my claustrophobic and agoraphobic other self, yet, through exhaustive costly lectures entreating a desperate purpose, albeit, 'tis nay to voices as mines affects my other senses through simplistic fear imagined then realized, whereto, I wrote about it entitled, "Agoraphobia", ...

I've nursed people in my time who have suffered with mental health issues and I remember one man writing a poem very similar in style to this about the voices he heard inside his head. He used to play the radio loud in an attempt to drown them out. A powerful poem, Andrea, written with empathy about a much misunderstood subject.

I actually have tinnitus 24 / 7 and have had for several years now. I'm on top of it now. Relaxation (writing poetry) certainly helps me. :)

also a new movie on Netflix: "I 'm thinking of ending it", this shows a woman who hears the ringing in her ears. It truly would make a person feel crazy!

thanks, Gary when I wrote this I never realized one day that I would have a similar thing myself. You know how people have ringing in their ears? My nervous system got so whacked from a medication a doctor gave me, that my mouth "rings" and I imagine sensations in my mouth that are just terrible. Also wind blowing on my back. I am not even mentally ill but some days I feel like I will go crazy from it all!
