The Night

The night has such dignity; Gently slipping into darkness, Allowing the nightstar To reveal its full magnificence With pure moonstruck beauty. The night, so heavily laden With its own secrets, Yet beckons me to stay And slip into its warm caress. Ah, the thick velvet of night Descending slowly, Allowing no light To mar the ecstasy Of transparent fantasy. The coming dawn, Though always certain, Will yet seem pale After the splendor Of this night.
