This poem was inspired by my granddaughter who is autistic. Although she has the love and support of both her parents, there are many special children being raised by a single parent. Where love and involvement abound, there is no limit to what any child can be.
Her world is silent and so is her music but she dances as if all can hear. Sometimes I join in to take part in her joy, no matter how strange we appear. She's only three and the love of my life, my princess, my reason for living. Her mother left me soon after birth with a gift that keeps on giving. I couldn't imagine life without her; indeed, it would be empty and dull. The music she hears playing in her head, I, too, hear and it makes my heart full. So, we will dance through our lives together, because daddy will always be near. No worries, just learning new steps to the music that only we hear. October 1, 2015

Well I was raised in San Francisco ballet almost all my life and taught, choreographed, and performed until I was 45 years old. My husband died young and I was gratefully left with our daughter... who danced. So this poem is completely relatable. You did a beautiful job. We still do hear the music, her daddy, and we are often in touch with a knowing behind that veil.

Jan! This poem is so lovely! Tears in my eyes and song in my heart, you reminded me of dancing with my own little princess to the beat of the music in her head. Thank you for sharing your beautiful writing!

Well this is my life since my husband died of Cancer when my daughter was 10. So change the line to "So, we will dance through our lives together, because mommy will always be near." and it's our poem. We also both danced in ballet most of our lives together! A7 WHERE ARE YOU JANECE?

Still visiting your poems, Edlynn. Raising a child on your own is tough. I was a single mother to my son who now has his own family. I tried to be both mother and father but also involved him in outside activities with good male mentors. He is a great father as he is aware of what he missed growing up. Thanks for your comment. hugs. Janece
