The Muse of Music
Music and poetry, companion creatures,
Come fully alive within the soul
Much more than techniques or metres
Filling the body entire and whole.
In mutual harmony both must respond
Instrument and person blending
The two fused in indivisible unison
A new personality befriending.
It is in concert that we witness
When we come across mere journeymen
They do not our hearts touch or bless
But to the virtuoso will we say Amen.
It is in that divine communion
That listeners sense the rapture
Of instrument and player's vital union
Which the spirit of the world does capture
