The Monster

It's growling, Hungering for its next meal-- four courses of me Waiting for me to surrender Pacing the now weak cage that holds it Licking its chops with eager excitement I'm trembling, Fearing that it will find a way out... Knowing that I hold the keys to unlock the cage But wondering if I can keep myself from doing the dreadful task Understanding the monster will haunt me forever It snaps, I jump back—- a small trickle of blood on my hand. It loves the taste, and his dreadful eyes smile I am in a terrible predicament Wanting but being repulsed by the worst thing about me I don’t want to show it—my FEAR
