The Makes a Difference Delusion

"Perhaps the most common mental illness," the professor was saying "is the insistence that one has a special thing to do and that one has a unique duty to do it." The professor was close to a giggle when he said it and the class was in oppen-mouthed sympathy. And the poetry vanished from the world in that moment when the delicate instrument Lila was carrying dropped from her hands.
