Author's Notes: This Petrarchan Sonnet, "The Magic of Christmas Divine," is a special Christmas sonnet I wrote and set in Iambic Pentameter. I believe that the words of this sonnet speaks for itself. The magic of Christmas divine finds its essence as we celebrate Christ's love for mankind here on Earth. This shared love during the Christmas season is part of an eternal constant which transcends our mortal existence and brings us all closer to God. Merry Christmas to everyone from my wife Ingrid and me! (Gary Bateman - December 16, 2016) (Petrarchan Sonnet)

Categories:  allegory, beauty, emotions, feelings, god, heaven, and love.

The technical parameters of this Sonnet are rendered as follows:

Syllables Per Line:  10

Total # Syllables:  140

Total # Verses:  14

Total # Words:  105

Meter:  Iambic Pentameter

Rhyme Sequence:  Octave - abbaabba | Sestet - cddcee

("How Many Syllables Counter" was used for syllable confirmation for both automated and manual syllable counts and cross-check.)

The Magic of Christmas Divine Christmas cometh only once in each year, Infusing us with moments so divine, Giving us God’s love in His cosmic rhyme, As mankind basks now true in hope and cheer! God brings us His Son’s love precious and near, In a mystic rhythm of iambic rhyme, Whilst we seek Christ’s holy embrace in kind, Praising Him with our love true and sincere! Christ’s passion gives us His true love replete, As we bathe in Heaven’s light ever bright, Sharing His endless love on Christmas night! Christmas magic touches our souls complete, As we celebrate Christ’s love here on Earth, Praising His transcendence from mortal birth! Hello Arturo, Thanks very much for your read here of my Christmas Sonnet from 2016. I'm very pleased that you enjoyed it!! I also write sonnets following the Shakespearean format. And during last year and this year, I wrote three Canzone-formatted poems following Dante's original format, which was the precursor form to both the Shakespearean Sonnet and the Petrarchan Sonnet. (Check them out too, to get a feel for them.) Best Always, Gary

Hello Robert, Thanks for dropping by and for your very gracious comments here on my Christmas Divine sonnet. I really enjoy writing Sonnets, and also "Canzones" too!! I know that I've always been in awe of the extraordinary volume and magnificent quality of your various sonnet and rhyme works. I do think, in many instances, that many of us who have deeply shared interests in writing and producing impeccable poetry and prose, do ultimately enhance our individual skills by reading each other's poetry and enriching our individual and mutual experiences. Thanks for the TR/FAV too!! Happy Easter to you and your family Robert from Ingrid and me!! Best, Gary

Christmas....a time for love received and given. What a pity that for many this special occasion has become victim to materialism! ~ May I take this opportunity to wish you and Ingrid a most happy and blessed Christmas, and all the best for 2017! ~ Regards // paul

Hello Paul!! And a Very Merry Christmas and Happy New Year to you my dear friend and your family from Ingrid and me!! Your words about "materialism" are, indeed, quite prophetic and most relevant. I really wonder how many people actually really think about the true meaning of Christmas?? (Unfortunately, with the soon ascension of Mr. Trump to his "presidential throne" in my home country, we'll all get a massive ring-side seat to his reality show materialism on a daily basis!! There are so many less fortunate people in our world who need help, but the well-to-do's couldn't care one iota!! I'll try to be an optimist . . . if I can. Prayer might help!! Regardless Paul, best wishes from us for 2017!! Best Always, Gary

Hello Kina!! Merry Christmas to you too from Ingrid and me!! I'm glad you liked this particular Sonnet. (Although I can and do write on just about every theme in a number of different formats, I'm still very partial to the traditional metered type of poetry.) More than any one poetic vehicle, it's always the message that one wants to convey to other readers that ends up counting the most. And you're certainly right, our troubled world today needs as much of peace and joy as it can get!! Feliz Navidad!! Gary
