The Lover's Dream
I dreamed you disappeared down shore's long curve,
dipped, abandoned prints, the jealous waves
smoothed by manic curl and rushed away,
reminder of the straightness of your stride,
I dropped a hand to bar the zealous tide,
then woke to glimpse your flower'd dress go by;
blue and velvet pearl, the curtain'd sun
flashed like tears that fall into a well,
from the window of a house imprisoned by,
a sandy path where love, each day denied,
finds in the folds of sleep, a place to hide.
