The Lonesome Gods
Do the lonesome gods up in the sky,
Ever question or wonder why;
Their faithful up and left them bare,
Alone and afraid without a prayer;
No homage is now paid to the gods,
No tribute left to the beings once awed;
Do they ever ponder where their followers went,
Or do they still wait for gifts to be sent;
Has it left them weak, barely hanging on,
Since their worshipers have all gone;
Or are they there, just biding time,
Watching the fallen committing their crimes;
Hoping someone will remember their grace,
The ones that ruled with hammer and mace;
Did they vanish from their temples of stone,
Are they terrified now, at being alone;
I think of them often, wondering if they are there,
And I hope that it helps them, knowing I care.
