The Lonely Umbrella

The Lonely Umbrella An umbrella is hung on the edge of the roped bridge of sighs its color a contrast to the black white and grey In the still of the night there is much to convey she must act very quickly no time to delay she did not ply her dreams and desires too well too many demons to dispel she stood at the edge staring down at the lake and murmured a prayer for the ones she will miss a brief second and then into the watery abyss a splash lands randomly on the bridge save one drop The lonely umbrella hangs on the roped bridge of sighs awaiting no one there is no one to care dripping down on it slowly is a single drop or is it a tear Free verse Written March 1, 2014 by Ralph Sergi for Visual number 2 Shown in SYMBOLISM: THE UMBRELLA Poetry Contest by nette onclaud

This is wonderful, Ralph ... so poignant and heart-wrenching, but sadly beautiful in every way. Love the imagery and the phrasing! Going to my favorites! Blessings, my friend! :-)

Hey, I hope this made the winners list. I saw a few of the winners and I must have not seen them all because I see some congrats here for you. I am glad to see someone take a different kind of look at that visual. I think suicide crossed my mind as a possibility for that one as well. Congrats!!

Excellent work. As stated By Charlotte a great symbol using the umbrella, it fails to shelter the loneliness yet catches the singe tear. Nice deep images captured in your umbrella to. This needs to read a number of times to enjoy it fully and with each read something new appears to mind..

Thank you, Seosamh: The visual appeared as an eerie scene so I said to myself, Someone left the umbrella there for a purpose.
