The Life of a Drop
The Life of a Drop
By Brett Somers
Written 3-14-16
A drop patiently awaits
A fate it cannot abate
A sprinkle in time
A moment closer to flow
It already knows.
Down it will go
With each midst
It doesn’t resist
With each expansion
Grows wiser
New molecules of wonder
From ancient seas and thunder
Holding on
Its position firm
On showers curtain
It awaits its turn.
A flow streams past
One drop to end many
Many drops become one
But our drop holds on
Eagerly filling its translucent bowl
A shimmering watery soul
Now feeling gravity’s throes
Heavier and bulging
It knows.
A sudden shift downward
Too heavy to hold
From inside the tension subsides
Walls collide
Its grip forever lost
But now enjoying the ride
Flowing
Glowing
Sense of unknowing
Joining other drops
Picking up momentum
Then all stops.
