The Last Sunset

The Last Sunset By Kevin Robey September 4, 2013 Wrapped up in consequences unforeseen Her mind blinded by what could have been A field in bloom where everything was green Flooded by tears poured by demons within She said let me go, this dark abyss is mine Exactly what I deserve for what I’ve done Your smile burns my eyes, why does it shine Your heart’s been pierced, actions never undone He tells me he is free of his pent up insanity Played in his mind like ends of bonfire flames His skin is still black from the match that I see Between my fingers rendered useless and lame I don’t deserve this smile, or anything at all I’ll sail away from the distant sunset horizon But even as I set the fire that began my fall I saw his little note he stashed way back then “I love you”, it said, “I always will”. He sat on the sandy shore with tears in his eyes He could never forget the light that she brought Back in the times where he was lost in disguise She brought him back here, to the truth that he sought He walked into the sea of broken dreams The promise he made that he’ll never let go He cast his sails and set off to the vengeful sea Never seen again by the shores from long ago The sunset faded into the dark horizon once more The last light touched the beach of flawless sand They would never again touch those distant shores It’s in the sea where they would always walk…hand in hand
