The Last Christmas Wish

To cast wishes at the distant stars   I thought I had grown too old; too often they vanished without a trace,   unheard and unheeded in void and cold. Yet regressing to an infant state,   tonight I find myself again clutching at these celestial straws   to rid my heart of fear and pain. I cannot bear the awful thought   of parting, I love you much; or to live my life absolved of you,   your presence out of touch. So I plead in a silent symphony,   lay my life down at your feet, that you choose me as your only one   and make my fractured world complete. Like a child making wishes of Christmas ghosts,   I find myself once more a lovelorn angel whose tearful choir   sings of you, only you, whom I love and adore.
