The Lair
THE LAIR
As you sleep on the couch
I listen to you breathing, slow
even, steady. Last night
you called me a jealous lover
and I laughed and denied
knowing you in such a way
that would make it so.
Ah, but here it is. I am
a fiery dragon, standing
guard as you sleep,
knowing you did speak
the truth. I remember taking
you twenty years ago, locking
you away in my lair. I spit
fire at anyone who dared approach.
Look at all the burned bodies,
the skeletons and bones.
Look at you, covered with scars.
