The Lair

THE LAIR As you sleep on the couch I listen to you breathing, slow even, steady. Last night you called me a jealous lover and I laughed and denied knowing you in such a way that would make it so. Ah, but here it is. I am a fiery dragon, standing guard as you sleep, knowing you did speak the truth. I remember taking you twenty years ago, locking you away in my lair. I spit fire at anyone who dared approach. Look at all the burned bodies, the skeletons and bones. Look at you, covered with scars. Copyrighted January 29, 2012 Jim Brewer

These words most definitely tell a story. Sadly, I am sure there are women who can relate to this. I enjoyed this:)

Jealousy is a great threat to any relationship or marriage..Sad but the jealousy is about the person that has it and not the person who it is directed onto and the one who is hurt from its destructiveness..Enjoyed reading this creative work..Sara

So many men are just like this..."a fiery dragon, standing guard," over the woman they claim as theirs. Someone locked me away in a "Lair" 10 years ago and .... how I wish I could break out sometimes.... Wonderful poem!
