The Inner Spy

Underneath the watchful sky Lies the stealthy, fickle spy; Hidden eyes that we forget, That sets in stone what we regret. Unravelling webs of our deciet, No secret can we truely keep. That little voice within your ear Makes consciousness a thing to fear. Unforgiving of hearts desires And never fooled by crafty liars; A witness to our deepest shame, Pointing out what's ours to blame. Underpinned by the pursuing lens; Inside and out, it never ends. And no respite can be found alone, Surveillance even invades our home. Unconscious devices shape our path, Yet we never have the final laugh. The joke's on us, but we're the last to see, That freedom really isn't for free.

hello charlotte i was looking down the poetry and i saw this, i think you have talent, and i have checked out other poems you have posted, i see that you have some perceptions about life/good and evil. somtimes the fastest journey is to despair, all for no real reason, other than a skewed take on your own reality and life role, often put on you from others, yes life is not easy, yes you can have a positive one, yes you can have input. use your talent positivley!

Charlotte, I never enjoy strict end rhyme poems like I do this write of yours. The imagery is sharp and the words flow crisp and cool. I won't even start on the subject matter-thats a conversation that could last forever! Nice work Miss Charlotte

No doubt that "freedom really isn't for free." We pay a high price in terms of lives lost. But I really like the way you speak of the conscience being an "inner spy," for it surely is that. It won't let us forget a thing. Great poem, Charlotte! Love, Carolyn
