The Inn Keeper
THE INN KEEPER
The city was crowded with travelers, abound,
Who had come from afar, to our little town;
So many packed, the establishments nearby,
On this, clear, perfect, starlit sky;
A firm knock, came upon my door;
My place could not hold, anymore;
"Sir, we need a place to stay;"
I had no more room, yet, I couldn't turn them away;
This man and his woman, so expectant it appeared,
I knew, her time was very near;
So, I put them in the stable, beyond my abode;
At least there was some comfort, out of the cold;
Sometime, after midnight, before break of day,
She delivered her child, then laid HIM in the hay;
How bright in the night, the star then shined;
Voices, from Heaven, suddenly combined;
A feeling of peace, unlike I had ever known,
Surrounded me, as if, I was before a throne!
The things which happened after this event,
Brought me more awareness; a loving content;
Since that blessed, night long ago,
Hope and Faith, have continued to grow;
One day, I know, I'll see this child again,
When I thank HIM, for coming to take away my sin!
