"What do you know of love?" I seethe.... a well of passion longing to be freed "I love you," the words I finally breathe and think you'll know this burning need "It's not enough," you say. "Find another way... say...say it differently This, 'I love you' means nothing to me. Let the words break through the mold of meaning and be born anew make me understand.... this...'I love you' What does it mean to you? I've heard it before, you see and then after some time I was shown out the door Say....say it to me....differently." "I know its overused and abused," I scream.... "but not by me...never by me! How can I make you see? bordering on the cliche.. What can I say? Nothing will do! nothing's good enough... good enough for you!" So I slash my breast my heart bleeds through in crimson warmth I cradle you I bath you in my salty tears and let you in to cloistered dreams I let my body say it right in liquid letters in the night then wake you with a gentle kiss and wrap you in delirious bliss each day: a testament that's true of thousand different 'I love yous' "So tell me now Why you can't see the truth that these words mean to me? Should you still think these words are weak then hear my heart and let it speak." Eileen Manassian Ghali

Very good poem here! This reminds me of Chris Marlowe's Passionate shepherd to his love poem. I wrote my own version of that poem back in high school...fast forward nearly twenty years I wrote the young lady's reply (or the dame as I called her). If you haven't read those please check them out and tell me what you think. I believe you will appreciate the words. But this was really good! Slashing her chest and allowing her heart to be exposed and bleed through....I loved it! MC

Oh sweet Eileen..Indeed I love you is mal used manytimes...and overused....Love and affection ..Not the same..Love and Hungry desire still not the same.I can feel you friend..I can read you..Yes if we all meant real love everytime we uttered I love you..then this world would indeed be a haven..To give ourselves to others so hard..and to accept that others let us down even harder.I love you sister..in my imperfect ways I do...Your poetry feels so real it has special ways of connecting 2me. That's because we are souls sisters, dear. I do love you....with the depth of love that comes from knowing a heart that is honest, true, and caring, for you have such a heart. How can anyone do otherwise than to love you, Charmaine. :) I'm doing better now. I'm losing weight. Exercising. It has helped boost my self confidence and zeal for life. Hugs, dear one.

I can confirm that sometimes words are not enough, and drastic action has to be taken! Your second part of the poem convinces me that action speaks louder than words:) Hugs // paul

Thanks, dear. I knew a little boy who would say this phrase for fear of punishment. It would break my heart to hear him say it over and over again.....It is a phrase that can be a heartbreaking one to hear. Hugs

"Love doesn't make the world go 'round. Love is what makes the ride worthwhile." The words come too easy, as you say,"they become cliche'." Another cliche', "actions speak louder than words." Love the write from the heart, Eileen.

Thanks, Tim. These words have somehow lost their meaning. The Greeks have 3 words for love...physical love, spiritual love, and friendly love. There is depth to the words. "I Love You" should be the same...

I, too, lived a romantic life that wrung the meaning of I Love You dry and meaningless. I love how you expressed this sad happening, then it got so dramatic as only you can do, dear heart, that the soft ride I empathized with entered a searing chapter I didn't see coming. As always, your poems wake me and my emotions up, a new ... CayCay (I wish to read more of your current postings, but time has me going out my door)

It seems that you are a lover and a giver as I am. I always appreciate your visits, CayCay. You always give insightful comments and somehow can read between the lines. Visit when you can...No rush. BTW....LOVE your new avatar. Hugs

Hi, Richard. FINALLY! The dry spell is over. Wow....almost two months. I've missed writing so very much. These first writes need some polishing, but I figured....better post and just get back into the swing of things. Glad you liked this piece. Hugs :)
