The Hourglass
THE HOURGLASS
Frank Halliwell
The sand runs swiftly through the glass
For me as well as you,
The lines etch deeper every day,
My mirror proves it's true.
We're here for just a little while,
A mere instant in time.
A single flutter of a heart
In life's great pantomime.
The act of birth; a miracle!
...A death sentence as well!
For just beyond the wondrous joy..
The tolling of that bell.
Old age should not a burden be,
Though we may feel that's true.
...Consider it a privilege
That's granted to a few.
