The Hit
Hot glass on cool lips
then a smile
half a dozen long trips
count the miles.
Exhale the smoke with a YES!
someone might be watching,
but I'm not pressed.
I listen for the sizzle,
that's the test.
Just a little piece of the rock,
that's all I'll need for a minute.
You think you've got it controlled,
you don't realize until you are in it.
The days will run into nights.
The nights will run into days.
Just when you think you are finished,
you run out again in a haze.
I don't mean to be cruel or unkind,
but it's a game of roulette, so just spin it.
Don't say when you play a game of this kind,
you didn't know the rules till you're finished.
