The Heart of a Child
She couldn't of been more than eight out with Dad for the day
And what must have been fate as along they made their way
For as the father usually went he often had seen the same sight
A homeless man on a vent asking if somehow he could get a bite
The father didn't even hear for he had never paid him any mind
But this child could see so clear in as her heart felt the mans bind
She tugged at her fathers hand and pointed over in the mans way
Honey you're too young to understand in trying to keep her at bay
They went to the corner diner the one with all those cakes and pies
The father thought nothing could be finer for her eight year old eyes
But she wouldn't even take one bite as the father soon asked her why
"It's just my tummy don't feel right with sad eyes and a great big sigh"
"How about if we buy him a meal and you pick a special piece of pie"
Suddenly she began to eat with zeal and a special twinkle in her eye
Yes much was learned on that day but it was the child who had taught
As it was Jesus who would say such a childlike heart should be sought
Matthew 18:4
Whosoever therefore shall humble himself as this little child,
the same is greatest in the kingdom of heaven.
