The Heart of a Child
The heart of a child
Is gentle and kind
But life takes a toll
On their mind
I’ve lived through it
Been beaten down by it
And now I struggle to get back on my feet
As everyone watches on the edge of their seat.
Popcorn in hand,
With candies of their favourite brand.
With some weird person eating coleslaw,
They watch in awe.
They’re an outlet to a void that they can’t fill,
And all they can think about is how they’ll pay the bills.
They inflict pain that they can’t take away,
And then tell me all I need to do is pray.
