The Heart Is a Lonely Hunter

...for Carson McCullers Terse language scored to the bone with no leftovers; pouring sorrow into every crucial word without a shred of platitude. She faced her ghosts with grace and fortitude, placing hope and loss in perfect symmetry, embracing solitude. Straight to the heart she spoke the truth, with no equivocation or careless gesture.

definitely one of my favorite books though I was too young to know it at the time. I remember the scene when the young girl character sat at the bar with a bowl of ice cream and a beer, meant to symbolize the transition to adulthood in her sixteen year old mind. Beautiful tribute Kieth:) -Yoni

I love this: "Terse language scored to the bone with no leftovers; ouring sorrow into every crucial word without a shred of platitude." It's fantastic the way you have articulated the feeling throughout the poem -and great title!
