The Gray of Today
The gray of today
The gray of today
I was sinking in dismay
I was thinking in dismay
I was growing gaily and freely
Like the grassland so preciously
Oh, darling, please – try to understand
I’ve been reduced to sand
I was once a robust rock…I need your helping hand
I’m not myself today as you can see
Oh, on and on, I grow like weeds in the grassland
Can’t you see I’m not the sparkly sea?
I pray that you stay joyous and gay
The gray of today
The gray of today
I wish it would fade away
I was glowing like the zealous sun
In sunlit glee, I perish suddenly – misfortune has won
Oh, dear sunshine, put me at ease for the rest of my life
All my life, I’ve been searching for a friend in this world of chaos and strife
But, I was lost in a multitude
Yet, I had the attitude of gratitude
I wasn’t coming across as rude
I was nourished off of God’s food
Don’t cast me away into the cold, cruel night
Oh, I run and run, I gain insight
By observing the gray of today
To be grief-stricken and alone forever doesn’t give you the right to reject God’s splendorous sight
The gray of today
The gray of today
The black of the night
Makes my heart beat with fright
I look up at the sky –
Where is the sun? Where is the stars that shine and sway?
Depression weighs me down this distressed day
Why have you gone away? Why?
The gray of tomorrow
Will come and depart someday
But, I won’t fret or shed tears of sorrow
Soon, the sun will melt away the outlandish gray of today
But, most certainly not today
I will try to make out a smile
Oh friend of mine – fine! I will run the extra mile
For awhile
For awhile
The gray of today…I let my emptiness show
The gray of today…let the blessed breeze blow
Some say I reflect its gray tint
I believe them and I have a long way to go
I’m God’s golden gem – do you get the hint?
The gray of today
The gray of today
Perhaps…the blessed breeze will sweep it all away
Say what you wanna say
I want the gray of today
To fade away
