The Gospel
THE GOSPEL
I lifted my eyes to behold –
To carefully examine the argument
But, how can I see?
The towering walls of unbelief;
Veiling my curious vision
To the delight of the stony heart -
Arrows of wise words, vehemently it resists
Is it just one of those things that happen to man?
I tried to think, but could not
Really, how can these things be?
Is there no alternative - a way to go about it?
… It’s got to be with a flash of lightning
How, the indomitable power, I realized
Residentially inherent in the mystery:
The ancient merciful act of God
Yes, only this could change a man!
And then I saw the diabolic seal
Plastered on the hearts of souls
Tenaciously avoiding deliverance
And stubbornly averting salvation
The procrastination, hesitation and indecision:
The depravity of man
That flings to hell
My heart could not help tearing apart
I sore cried
For I was once in there
Filled to the brim
With self-conceit and worldly wisdom
Oh no! Something has got to happen
And it takes a mourning heart
For a soul, to wait
Ah, the junction where time meets revelation
Can you, the news believe O hapless soul!
Great love of the most high:
Offering salvation to man;
Showing the way to live;
Preparing him for eternity;
Expelling her from the world, and
Living the lifestyle of the master -
It has to be so, now and hereafter
