'the Girl That Was Way Out of My League'
buttermilk biscuits rise in the oven
scrambles eggs are frying
the hominy grits is bubblin'
the french vanilla coffee is perculating
the plates and the silverware are clanking
you say good morning with a smile
i say the same back with a grunt
as usual, you do something silly to make me laugh
i want to take the day off
you pull out yet another new bathing suit that you bought over the weekend
i tell you 'i know i know i know'
you poke me teasingly and say 'uh huh, you better get your ass to work'
i laugh and smack yours and say 'have a good day'
you give me a wicked smile and reply 'now i want the day off too'
i shake me head at you and head out to face yet another day
you close the door laughing and it is then i hear the love in your tone when you say behind the door....'now what am i going to do with that man'
i enter my old hyundai sonata, sit there as the car warms up, and think about the many things that i wish she was doing....TO ME!
i laugh at my hard on and drive away happy and loving her more
and to think, she was 'the girl that was way out of my league'
