The Garden Party
Dainty Bess did not show her face
At the garden party today...
In her absence, Larkspur were
Hoity in elegant dress of hot pink and
Sapphire blue lace, standing tall, lifting
Their heads so all could see.
Irises burst with laughter in golden crowns,
Sparkling in the afternoon sun.
Their bearded neighbors shone too, in every
Color of blue, yellow and orange that shimmered.
Fox glove stood guard, dazzling in lavender pink.
Lilies with speckled faces beamed.
Columbine majestically dressed in red and purple,
Pushed to be noticed and danced to the
Rhythm of quiet breezes.
Shasta daises in lacy white and yellow entered
With grace as evening primrose waited for their
Time for grand entrance.
The party was quite an affair with pansies dancing
Around the edge of silver mounds.
