The Funeral

Let us not cry for those who are dead We should not inhabit paths of regret not linger on what we should have said When they left they removed all debt Knowing one day we will follow them We should not inhabit paths of regret Remove tattered cloth sew up the hem Approach each day with a new joy Knowing one day we will follow them I remember being just a boy If only I could recapture him Approach each day with a new joy So I listen to the funeral hymn Let us not cry for those who are dead If only I could recapture him not linger on what we should have said The first line was from a Poem by Fiery Red called "Graveyard Diggers- a frustrated quest" If you find this interesting consider trying out my contest.

Well done! Love the line about removing tattered cloth. Oh if only it was so easy to remove bad things from our lives.

Sometimes it's easier than we realize. We may not change things because they are familiar and they provide us with an odd comfort.

Not only are these profound words......but a most difficult form to match. A great piece for the contest, Richard!

I deeply concur with the message in this writing. How easy it is to look back and wish we could complete those unfinished chapters of our lives. Yet, there is this lingering paradox that we can correct those "what ifs" tomorrow, even though tomorrow isn't promised. You had my mind drifting here. Wonderful writing.
