The Freedom of My Soul
The freedom of my soul is my one goal
The freedom of my soul, I can't afford to
let it grow old.
You! You are the chain that binds my brain.
I must find strength within, my life I must begin
again.
And though this move of my desire will hurt me bad,
it's the thing to make my soul glad.
I must to my own self be true, I can't keep waiting for
you. I love you, yes, always I do, but to myself I must
be true.
I've asked you time and again to treat me like a friend.
I don't know what it is about me that makes you vile, but
it's my turn to live for a while.
And though it hurts me to go my separate way, God says
there is a brighter day.
So if one day you do suppose that you and I will have the
same goals, then do you come to my heart with glee, for
you my love, then too will be free.
