The First Man
He's the first man I rememeber
The first to hold me tight
The first to wipe my tears and say
Everything would be alright
He's the first to say "I love you"
And kiss me on the cheek
The first to help me ride my bike
And give me confidence to speak
He's the first to give a lecture
Or laugh at my corny joke
The first to take me to the ER
In case a bone I had broke
He's the first to teach me honesty
The first to show me strength
The first to show that in loving others
Sometimes you have to go the greater length
The first to teach me that standing for the right
Is the best choice every time
The first to show me that family and integrity
Are worth much more than dimes
He's the first man God placed in my life
To give teaching and share laughter and tears
I'm so thankful for this man I call my dad
And I pray God gives us many more years
