The First Flowers of Spring
My heart dark from the cover of winter
looks for sign of the warmth of spring.
It sees the green leaves and crown of the
crocus and the violets in the shady glen.
The regal iris by the gate is a purple delight
and I welcome the beauty they bring.
Delighting in the quiet promise that
daffodils offer as they dip their heads in
the breeze, my soul beings to wake from
winters long hibernation. It seems these
little treasure were sent to assure me
that once more the beauty of summer
is not far behind.
