The Fire Within
The fire within
I sit down and watch the candles’ fire
It seems I’m at odds with my needs and desires.
The flame burns true and grows much higher
It seems relentless and never shall tire.
A breeze blows and the flame does flicker
A fog rolls in and starts to get thicker.
Still there is light and I’m able to see
The flame is like desire burning in me.
The candle grows shorter the flame goes low
I see so much yet, so much I don’t know.
Once again the breeze starts to blow
It seems that the end is starting to show.
My mind starts to wander as the flame does dance
Never the same as I take a second glance.
I see so much in life is left to just chance
I drift to a dream as the flame puts me in a trance.
I see the flame much like the fire inside my soul
As the flame rises I begin to feel whole.
I reach the next bridge and pay the toll
I cross the bridge because there’s nowhere to go.
I reach the other side and the rise of the sun
Casts illumination on who I have become
The fire may grow low but never goes out
While the flames chase away the shadows of doubt.
