The Fault Line

"We will work things out!" he assured her. She responded with a light smile. It was a phrase she got used to, like a nun repeating "Hail Mary" in a convent. She knew it was a way of convincing himself that everything would be okay, and he knew very well it was over. Their fights began in the bedroom, then they spread to everything they could sense around them. Kisses, caresses, hugs.....were no more. Sometimes she hugged her pet dog, so that she could remember how being hugged felt like. A fault line was slowly growing between them, because each one of them was creating a world; a world where the other's love wouldn't survive at all.....

Very sad. This is the fault line that usually happens in relationships. Well said. Good luck in the contest.
