The chlorophyll is starved, green goes to brown and red. The dead are promptly shed. See beech tree - skeletal, stark and elemental, looking like black metal. But in its outer skin some dormant cells waiting - for rising in the spring.

As the hardiest vegetation of them all -- weeds! -- continue to prove, it takes a lot to keep the earth from blooming. Even man hasn't ruined it all yet.

Yes, a bit chilly but next week is winter solstice - then again we're on the up to spring. But a long haul ahead. Tony.
