The Example

When I didn't see it your way You Just couldn't let it go It became your one focus That is why you stooped so low You made me an example To fill your need to be right Now the damage has been done I've experienced your bite You may have won a battle Possibly even the war But what you don't realize We can't be friends any more I can no longer trust you You will never have my back I know if I don't agree I will be under attack

Unfortunately I can be a little bit like the person you describe! Sometimes I feel like I must argue and contradict, but there's really no point in it... it just infuriates and makes storms where there shouldn't be any. In the end what does it matter who was right and who was wrong. The cost of a friendship isn't worth it...

I agree Timothy. I tend to forgive and forget but sometimes that leads to some pain as well.

Great write, Richard! Very often, that's what poetry is: the opportunity to say things that you sometimes must hide behind shy looks or hesitating minds... or just trivial "politeness": the politically or socially or "friendly" correct... Hard to say things like you just did! Great write, indeed! Hugs, Hanitra

Enjoyable rhyme with a good lesson...I sure am guilty of 'not letting something go'

Richard... It's too bad that human interactions are occasionally like what you describe. Fortunately, not all are. I like your response to an earlier reply, that this happened in the past. Isn't it interesting how small events stick in one's mind? Very fine writing. Jack

Strangely humans are wired to remember the negative. Fortunately for me the positive experiences far out weigh the negative.

Richard...who could do something like that to you? I'm so sorry to read this. Life is awful. It really is. We get hurt by those we love the most. Two songs come to mind...Why do we always hurt the ones we love? (Richard Marx) Why...(Michael Card) "Why did it have to be a friend who chose to betray the Lord....Why did he choose a kiss to show them...that's not what a kiss is for." You aren't the only one in pain. Hang in there....

Don't worry I am fine, this happened a long time ago. We were at a restaurant and a waiter was needing to make a point so it brought back a memory as a result a poem was born in the process. Thanks for the concern you are very sweet for coming to my rescue.
