The End of the Road
My love, we'll dance beneath palms no more
Nor raise our glass of exaltation again
Our windswept footprints leave our barren shore
And the sun will set, for tears to be hidden in
Parting brings sadness when the road ends
Its final destination leaves nowhere to turn
To darkness, in silence, our love descends
These flame burned ashes our only concern
To weave darkness into a cloak to be worn
A garment of loneliness sown from love's death
To hang on shoulders of yearning without scorn
With the hearts departure from love's last breath
Could love have revealed its terrible pain
Before bonding passionate hearts such as ours
To drift away without reasons to explain
Time and loneliness always devourers
To falter without design when roads bend
And love has quietly moved farther apart
To bear this weight of failure a distant friend
We'll kiss goodbye to yesterday as we part
