The Elm

You were the Elm Tree I was your Soil Perfect union only Disease could spoil Years of nurture Roots grew strong Little did we know It would not last long The larks and sparrows Made us their home Squirrels and rabbits Traversed as they roam And the Sun warm In the fresh morning light Warmed us so kindly With pure delight We watched more sunsets Than a thousand lovers Naked to nature Unnecessary for bedcovers And at night the Moon In unequivocal glory Would cast Its' glow upon us The end to the Elms' love story.

A delightful piece Kelli! Nicely rhymed with a smooth, short-phrased cadence. I love '...unnecessary for bedcovers!' Well done!! Best wishes, Keith
