The Dress Was White
The dress was white with flowered trim.
It flared widely from the hip.
I turned just as the camera clicked.
We were standing on the stern of the ship.
Auburn hair in bright sunlight,
a white sundress that flared.
Captured in the camera's eye
just that one moment shared.
I hate to have my picture taken
and will do my best to hide
but with ocean as the backdrop
I show that picture with pride.
So many years have gone since then.
My youth has gone as well.
It was a magical day on that ship
as the picture will surely tell.
