The Dream
The dream
The dream I dreamed of was not of you
I saw a field with goats and sheep’
The grass was green like your heart ‘
And the sheep had smiles when they grazed.
I asked for water and you gave me sweat,
The cane was harsh on my soft back, but in my dream
I saw a stream of milk and honey,
I drank and bathed and scrubbed my skin,
To rid myself of the stench of you,
The dream I dreamed was not of you.
You sewed my lips together,
Zipped them up with cruel deeds and words,
You killed the smile that threatened to bud,
And so I found I could not laugh.
But in my dreams I danced and laughed,
I sang and played to me hearts’ content,
The dream I dreamed was not of you.
I think you are blind,
Cause all you see is my pain,
You think am scared but why can’t you see?
In my eyes there’s’ laughter and joy,
You wonder why I get better and not bitter everyday!
Well I got news for you…
My wings are growing ‘n soon I’ll fly away.
So watch this space and shield your eyes,
My future is too bright it may burn your eyes up.
