The Dream
THE DREAM
From the corners of my mind
I see hope
Hope as at last my grandchildren
Wade away from poverty
The poverty and hopelessness
That continues to plague
Plague their minds and their souls
I see them chase it away
No longer to be their song.
From the corners of my mind
I see joy
Joy as finally my grandchildren
Step away from illiteracy
The illiteracy and wretchedness
That continues to arrest
Arrest their growth and advancement
I see them drive it away
No longer to be their story
From the corners of my mind
I see victory
Victory as at last my grand children
Win the battle over disease
The disease and destruction
That continue to steal
Steal away their young lives and vitality
I see them drive it away
No longer to be their creed
From the corners of my mind
I see a new day
Newness as finally my grandchildren
Inherit the Africa they deserve
Africa a land of completion
Not all pollution and corruption
A place of plenty and of beauty
The home of God
To be their song, their story and their creed.
