The Door

My door has remained open Ever since you left Still standing in the doorway Hoping you would return I had moments of closing it Always with a second guess Some nights I'd close it shut But unlocked for you Other times just cracked Sometimes I've had intruders Sometimes invited guests But nobody that I wanted enough To make my home their home Deep down in the pit Of my child's tummy I've reserved this door For you I knew you would come again And I've welcomed you back in I've welcomed you to stay But you're wanting to get up Put your coat back on And leave Run! Run Far away from this door That is wide open just for you Just say the words And I'll make sure to shut it Double lock it And never, ever Let it open for you again

A well written poem. Your last stanza is very strong. Perhaps, you should close and lock the door. It may be the best thing. The door is a metaphor for your heart. Nicely done.
