The Dawning of Freedom

In darkness I sit, Afraid and alone. Chained and tied I wait, Ashamed to call this my home. Will this darkness end? Will I ever be free? In this blinding shadow, There is no way to see. But in the darkness I hear a song so pure! An anthem that rings Strong and sure! I follow the sound, To a brilliant light. An astonishing glow, That swallows the night. The sound of freedom Sweeps the land! My tears are dried, And independence stands. There is no fear, My chains no more. For freedom sings Like a lions' roar.

Happy Black History month! My great great grandfather came as an eleven year old boy! He bought his own freedom before slaves were freed in his twenties! But he too was captured and transported over. Great write!
