The Country Stroll
I saw you walking in a rural esteem,
Alongside the irrigation stream;
It was near the golden end of the day,
I prayed you would look over my way.
Alongside the irrigation stream,
Picked out by the last sunbeam,
I prayed you would look over my way;
See me and have something to say.
Picked out by the last sunbeam,
Your hair and eyes seemed to gleam.
See me and have something to say:
It was all I could think and pray.
Your hair and eyes seemed to gleam.
I opened my mouth greetings to redeem;
It was all I could think and pray,
As afternoon fading you turned away.
I opened my mouth greetings to redeem;
Orange and brown the colour scheme,
As afternoon fading you turned away,
A tall shadow across the grass to sway.
Orange and brown the colour scheme,
It was near the golden end of the day,
A tall shadow across the grass to sway;
I saw you walking in a rural esteem.
