The Compliment
My fashion sense, to be quite kind
Is sometimes difficult to find
But I do still hope for a compliment
From a well-dressed, handsome, discerning gent.
On my morning walk one summer day
I was feeling low I have to say
Broad-brimmed hat a little quaint
Fashion plate it certainly ain't
I passed a buff and muscled chap
In standard backward baseball cap
He looked at me and took me in,
Gave a big encouraging grin
Called out loud "I like your hat"
Just like that!
I broke out in a huge, huge smile
And cheerfully walked an extra mile.
