The Clearing

Stumbling through midnight blackness, with every step and thought, trepidation is my only companion on a streambed's bank - unsteady where pain and serpents wait, an unwelcome visitation. They fear as we, this intrusion of peace. Do hopes dissolve here where loneliness feasts on sanity! I wish not to disturb these denizens of my dreams. Rather, I will glimpse the Southern Cross in one brief moment of clarity and...find my way home.

Honored that you wrote to it Charlotte! This is actually a true recollection of mine, as I'm certain yours was. When I was in Army training they had this escape and evasion drill where they set us out on one side of a densely wooded area and we were to find our way through. It was Louisiana, so there were snakes and steep banks next to streams. It was so dark (there were 6 of us and we had to hold each others belts incase someone steps off a stream edge--we were happy to get to a clearing to get our bearing in the stars.

Someone wrote a poem about this one I guess it is supposed to be about this one. This one is very descriptive and expressive. Thanks for sharing. Sara
