The Circus
My oh my, I always wondered why?
Why the clowns, with their sadly painted frowns
turn upside down, if only for a little while?
It is because, their made up and painted faces,
show no hurtful traces when their frowns
do tumble into brightly painted smiles.
But the frowns return and the cartwheel affirms,
that the show goes on and on and on.
Won’t you say a little prayer,
so the clowns can stay upside down up there?
Under the big top, let the jaws drop,
and have mercy for the sad and silent clowns.
