Just a few months ago
I didn’t know this woman
Who became my friend
And someone who I love
A friend who I defend
As the smile, the giggle…
The gentle tug of the heart,
The kindness that reminds
Secrets, silence, soothing
Comes from knowing and
Believing in a love far truer
Far greater, far surer
Than any kiss or embrace
From the heart who doesn’t
See the faith inside, the believing
Just a while ago,
She was merely a stranger
No one I knew, just a passing
Visitor in my daily dealings,
The guest who would not know
The way my heart is filled
With joy from experiencing
A relationship, a friendship
With this heart who knows
Jesus is the light of my soul
Just a little bit earlier
I didn’t know her, yet – for
Christmas this year, she spent
Her time, her money, her thoughts
In giving to me, - a heart so simple,
So much – the least of these,
Yet, she gave to me, a piece of her smile
A piece of her heart, a part of her
That will forever haunt my thoughts
Generosity….
With the remembrance that she truly is…
The grace in the shadows of graceful
The faith in the shades of faithful
The light in the silhouette of delight
She is, in a word, - a joy to know
Because in her heart, I discovered
Love that has no need for words
It is a love that is sent down from above
And rides on the wings of the angels
Who know that her gift is not the presents,
But the token of His presence, His love
Lighting the path for the Christmas Spirit
To shine brighter than the stars above!
In her, I glimpsed real love
