The Butterfly Flutters By

As I stand on the shore of lake Huron in Ontario, Canada Marveling at all the beauty with autumn at her peek I see what I assume a flying leaf upon a cool breeze Until it lands upon my hand and folds its wings Velvet orange, striped with black, edged with dots of white I watch in awe as that Monarch butterfly once again takes flight Four times it had to shed its skin to pick itself up off the ground A caterpillar that stole away in a chrysalis until its truth was found Four generations would come and go before its final stage A journey over land and sea, two thousand miles of flight To a mountain range in Mexico ... its final destiny where it would Join …millions and millions of other monarch butterflies that somehow against all odds survived… A miracle is what I see each time a Monarch butterfly, flutters by. beautiful imagery in this poem. I once saw the Monarchs at Pebble Beach, Ca on their way up from Mexico...it was an amazing sight.

A caterpillar that stole away in a chrysalis until its truth was found Four generations would come and go before its final stage Lyrical though in prose form, truly poetic handling of a poetic theme. Bravo!

Dear Lainie, Nature can teach us so much. Creatures like the beautiful butterfly lift our spirits and help us understand that change can be wonderful as we endure. I loved that message in your lovely poem!

Dear Lainie, Wow, I had no idea they flew so far! There is a state park in North Florida that is known for its "Monarch Season." So many gather there that scientists are awed by the phenomenon. Absolutely love you poem! It goes to my faves. And thanks for your comment, even though I'm not "Connie." LOL Love you and your work, Carolyn
